‘Uthurukaraye Arya Sabhyatvaya’ offers historical perspective to Northern Sri Lanka..

The launch ceremony of the book titled ‘Uthurukaraye Arya Sabhyatvaya’, edited by respected scholars Sumedha Weerawardena and Sameera Prasanga, was held recently at the Sumathi Auditorium in Colombo 03. Jagath Sumathipala, President of the Bauddaloka Foundation, presented the first copy? of the book to the Ven. Maha Nayaka Thero of the Ananda Amarapura Sri Dharmarakshitha Mahanikaya, Trincomalee.

‘Uthurukaraye Arya Sabhyatvaya’ offers readers valuable insights into another aspect of Sri Lankan history. The editors’ primary aim is to analytically examine the facts surrounding expansion of settlements in the Northern part of Sri Lanka, based on both primary and secondary sources. The book spans from the early history of northern Sri Lanka to the Anuradhapura era, continuing through to the Polonnaruwa period and ending in 1948.

The book begins with an in-depth discussion on the geographical features of the northern region and presents an analysis of the historical development of Sri Lanka. The third chapter is dedicated to exploring multiple approaches to studying Northern history and drawings on archaeological findings. Contents in the book also include ancient coins, architectural designs, art, excavations, mercenary forces, and marine ruins discovered in the North.

Overall, ‘Uthurukaraye Arya Sabhyatvaya’ provides a comprehensive analysis of key aspects of the political, cultural, ethnic, and social dyn  amics in the Northern areas of Sri Lanka.
