National fuel pass surpasses 5 million registrations

The national fuel pass has surpassed 5 million registrations as of today, the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka said.

ICTA said that the national fuel pass is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Power and Energy, ICTA, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), Indian Oil (IOC), and two leading tech companies in Sri Lanka.

“Appreciating efforts of all stakeholders involved, the National Youth Services council, divisional level government officers, supporting on-ground,” ICTA tweeted.

The National Fuel Pass QR code system will be implemented from today at fuel stations across the island.

The last digit of the number plate and other systems that were in place earlier will not be valid from today (1st August).

The Power and Energy Ministry said that fuel distribution will be prioritised for fuel stations that have adopted the QR code system.

Vehicles are registered for the fuel pass and a QR code is allocated once the vehicle chassis number and other details are verified.

The fuel is issued under a quota system for those registered with the national fuel pass.
