Uber Eats completes 4 years in Sri Lanka….

Contributes LKR 3M+ to support delivery partners

Uber Eats, Sri Lanka’s most popular food and grocery delivery app, has completed 4 years in the country. In this time, it has fast grown to become available across 5 Sri Lankan cities including Colombo, Kandy, Kurunegala, Negombo, and Gampaha. With over 10,000 registered merchant partners and 15,000+ delivery-partners on the platform, Uber Eats has completed over 24 million deliveries till date. In fact, 100,000 deliveries have happened on cycles after Uber Eats became the first to introduce them earlier this year.

To mark this occasion, Uber Eats has contributed more than LKR 3 million to support delivery-partners and their families. Forming a part of the second edition of ‘Uber Delivery Scholar’, this initiative will support delivery-partners and their children to achieve their goals.

The award outlay will be utilized in the form of scholarships and gifts including school stationery for children of delivery-partners for a whole year. This will also include education scholarships worth LKR 40,000 each to pursue certificate courses from the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM).

Commenting on Uber Eats’ journey in Sri Lanka, Bhavna Dadlani Jayawardene, General Manager, Uber Eats Sri Lanka, said, “This has been an incredible journey so far and the love and acceptance that we’ve got from this beautiful country is most humbling. Perhaps the most critical component of this journey has been delivery-partners on our platform who’ve worked tirelessly to help establish Uber Eats as a household name in Sri Lanka. We recognize their efforts and want to do our bit in supporting them with a bigger and better edition of the Uber Delivery Scholar. We want to continue bringing the best to our customers here and we’re just getting started.”
